COIMBATORE: The department of municipal administration and water supply (MAWS) has invited requests for proposal (RFPs) for setting up a waste to energy (WtE) plant on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis at Vellalore dump yard here.The approximate value of the plant is Rs 450 crore with a processing capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day (TPD). The facility will handle waste from the Coimbatore-Tirupur cluster areas.The notification for the tenders was announced on Feb 13 for both Coimbatore and Madurai WtE plants. The RFP was opened on Feb 19. As per the MAWS notice, the last date for downloading the tender document and for submission of the filled up tender document is April 2 (till 3 pm). The received bids will be opened at 4pm on April 2 April.Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran, said, “This plant is a scientifically approved method. The same plants in cities like Delhi operate with a daily capacity of 2500 TPD. The facility can process both segregated waste and mixed waste. However, we will ensure that segregated waste is received from Tirupur. The project is being implemented in a public-private partnership mode.”
