Bhiwani/Rohtak: Boxers from Haryana delivered a stellar performance at the Asian Boxing Championship 2026 held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with Bhiwani’s women boxers winning four medals for the country, while Rohtak’s Meenakshi Hooda added further glory by clinching a gold medal in the same international event.Bhiwani’s medal tally includes two gold, one silver and one bronze, underlining the district’s strong legacy in Indian boxing. Among the gold medallists, Preeti from Badesra village dominated the 54kg category, securing a convincing 5-0 win in the final. Coach Vinod Kumar said she defeated a three-time world champion, the reigning champion and a Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist en route to her victory. Her consistent and confident performance ensured her qualification for the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, and with the gold medal, she will now participate without trials. Preeti began her boxing journey in 2017.In the 60kg category, Priya from Dhanana village also clinched gold, defeating her opponent 3-0 in a commanding final bout, showcasing technical superiority and composure in the ring. Jaismine Lamboria secured a silver medal in the 57kg category after a strong campaign. Coach Sandeep Lamboria said that she faced a tough opponent from Thailand in the final and performed well but narrowly missed out on gold. Her entry into the final has confirmed her selection for the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.Pooja Rani Bohra added to the medal tally by winning bronze in the 80kg category with a commendable performance.
