Prayagraj: The PCS 2024 result is not just a merit list — it is a quiet story of candidates from smaller and academically less-highlighted districts proving their capability in the state’s toughest administrative examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. While many of these aspirants may have moved to bigger cities later for higher studies or coaching, their roots lie in districts that are rarely seen as civil services hubs.A striking pattern in the data shows that at least 164 selected candidates come from districts that contributed in single digits or very low double digits, underlining how strongly smaller regions have featured in this year’s success story.Mirzapur has produced 12 candidates, while neighbouring Sonbhadra has seven. Pratapgarh has delivered 17 selections and Jaunpur 22, matching the performance of several larger districts. Sitapur has 12 candidates, and districts like Amethi, Gonda and Moradabad have 10 each.Barabanki and Hamirpur have eight candidates each. Bulandshahr, Chandauli, Sonbhadra and Sultanpur have seven each. Etawah, Shahjahanpur and Maharajganj have six each. Baghpat, Bahraich, Muzaffarnagar, Balrampur and Jalaun have five each, ensuring steady representation.Even smaller districts such as Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Pilibhit and Sambhal have three candidates each. Kannauj, Kasganj, Mahoba and Kanpur Dehat have two each, while Farrukhabad has one candidate in the final list. The spread clearly shows that success in PCS 2024 is no longer confined to traditional academic centres. Determination from smaller districts, combined with opportunities for higher education and preparation elsewhere, has translated into impressive administrative representation across the state. tnn
