Bengaluru: To address civic and infrastructure issues in Mahadevapura zone, BBMP chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao held a zonal meeting Monday. The session resulted in key directives targeting unauthorised commercial activities, lake conservation, and monsoon preparedness.A main focus was the crackdown on basement shops operating illegally in spaces meant for parking. Rao instructed officials to issue notices and initiate legal action against violators. “Basements are for parking, not commercial activity,” he said, warning of a zero-tolerance approach. With the monsoon under way, BBMP prioritised flood prevention, especially in vulnerable areas like Sai Layout. Rao directed teams to clear silt and debris from water channels, roadside drains, and gratings to ensure smooth rainwater flow. He also flagged the incomplete stormwater drain work near Sarjapur Main Road and Columbia Asia, urging swift completion to reduce flood risks. The condition of the zone’s 52 lakes was another major concern. Officials have been asked to draft comprehensive plans to remove encroachments, improve water flow, and strengthen buffer zones. Rao ordered the formation of a committee under the joint commissioner to monitor lake management, with a designated officer sharing project updates. On infrastructure, Rao instructed officials to resolve Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) issues at Hoodi Junction and Panathur S-Cross to fasttrack road widening and underpass work.Zonal commissioner Ramesh highlighted that Mahadevapura has 85,000 streetlights, with plans to install 10,000 more. A survey is under way to identify faulty lights, and proposals for new poles will be submitted soon.
