Bengaluru: Residents of Mantri Espana, an apartment complex in Bellandur, were informed on Wednesday that LPG supply within the community would be restricted to fixed hours starting March 13. However, the proposal was later withdrawn after residents raised concerns and TOI sought clarification from the apartment association. In a message circulated to residents, the management committee said the complex typically consumes around 25 LPG cylinders a week but had only 12 cylinders in stock at the time. Although another 22 cylinders were expected from vendors, the association noted that supplies remained uncertain and had proposed rationing gas usage to ensure the available stock lasted longer. The plan was to limit gas supply through the central pipeline system to two-time windows each day: 5am to 9am and 6pm to 9pm. Residents were also asked to reduce gas usage and use alternatives such as induction stoves, rice cookers, and microwaves where possible. The announcement triggered discussion among residents on community groups. “We were surprised when the message came. None of us heard of other apartment complexes in the area restricting gas supply, so naturally people were worried about what exactly was happening,” a resident told TOI.Apartment association president Vartika Chopra said the idea was discussed as a precaution because the complex relied on commercial LPG supplied through a central pipeline system. “This was not an unplanned or unilateral decision, but a step taken to rationalise and curb scarcity, given that the supply and its limited sources were brought to our attention. We will follow the lead of other residential societies.”
