Belagavi: Continuous heavy rainfall on Wednesday wreaked havoc across Belagavi district, severing connectivity to at least 15 villages, including several hamlets in Khanapur taluk. Belagavi-Goa Highway, passing through Khanapur, remains closed due to the inundation of Halatri stream.Khanapur taluk recorded the highest rainfall in the district (103mm) over the past 24 hours, contributing significantly to the rain havoc. Intense rainfall in the Western Ghats and Krishna River catchment area led to the submergence of six low-lying bridge-cum-barrages in Nippani taluk. The following bridges were submerged for the fourth time in a month: Karadaga-Bhoj, Bhojawadi-Kunnur, Sidnal-Akkol, Jatrat-Bhivashi, Hunnaragi-Mamadapur, and Kunnur-Barawad.In Chikodi taluk, Kallol–Yadur and Malikawad–Dattawad bridges also went under water. Similarly, Hukkeri taluk reported flooding at multiple points, including Yaranal bridge and a bridge in Sankeshwar town. In Mudalagi taluk, Avaradi bridge and Mudalagi–Sunadholi bridge are also submerged, cutting off traffic on key rural routes.Local authorities, who are monitoring the situation, have advised residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious. As rain continues to lash the region, further flooding and disruptions are expected.
