Chandigarh: A row has erupted over rapper Badshah’s latest song, with Haryana Commission for Women summoning him on March 13 and Panchkula and Jind Police registering FIRs. The Haryanvi track, “Tateeree”, sparked a backlash shortly after its March 1 launch. The controversy centres on alleged indecent lyrics and a music video showing schoolgirls in uniform dancing atop a Haryana Roadways bus with “Jind Depot” written on it.While the cybercrime police station in Panchkula registered a case against the song and unidentified accused, Jind Police named Badshah in its FIR after Haryana Roadways department filed a complaint. Officials said using the department’s bus and name without authorisation was a punishable offence, and strict action was sought against the singer. “We did not provide any bus for the shooting of the song,” said Rahul Jain, general manager, Haryana Roadways.
Haryana State Commission for Women summoned Badshah to appear in Panipat on March 13 to clarify his stand. The commission’s intervention followed a complaint by a Panipat-based NGO alleging that the song promoted obscenity and indecent language, showed a marked lack of respect for women and minors and featured “inappropriate” punchlines.Haryana govt, too, took cognisance of the matter. State education minister Mahipal Dhanda said the process was underway to identify the specific bus and depot used for the shoot. “We are investigating how a state-owned bus was used in this manner,” Dhanda said.
