UDUPI: An autorickshaw driver was killed, and a passenger sustained injuries after a private bus rammed into their vehicle near the Padubidri junction on National Highway 66 on Sunday night. The deceased is Manohar, 49.According to police, the incident occurred around 9pm when Manohar was driving his autorickshaw with a passenger named Jaya, heading from Kanchinadka towards Padubidri. As they waited at the western edge of the highway to cross the road, a private bus travelling from Udupi to Mangaluru hit the autorickshaw.The bus driver, identified as Yashavanth, was allegedly driving recklessly and negligently. The impact of the collision dragged the autorickshaw about 10 feet. Manohar was thrown onto the road and sustained severe head injuries. Jaya also sustained injuries to the chest and legs. Manohar was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru, while Jaya was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Mukka. Manohar later succumbed to his injuries.A case has been registered at the Padubidri Police Station, invoking Sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
