Ahmedabad: The garden department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) initiated a GIS/GPS-based tree mapping process in the city after a gap of 12 years. Over the past year, 1.54 million (15.41 lakh) trees were counted. The agency appointed by the garden department completed the census in eight wards — Jamalpur, Maninagar, Naranpura, Navrangpura, Bapunagar, Sabarmati, Khokhra, and Asarwa — while the count is still ongoing in the remaining 40 wards.Notably, the number of trees in the city doubled over the last 12 years. Belagavi: Malmaruti police on Saturday seized liquor worth Rs 25 lakh that was allegedly transported illegally from Goa in a truck on the outskirts of the city. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by police inspector BR Gaddekar raided a truck near Srinagar Garden. They found that it was illegally transporting liquor from Goa and seized it. Bhushan Borase, city police commissioner, said that the truck driver did not have any documents. Noida: After dense morning fog pushed visibility below 800 metres, air quality across Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad worsened on Saturday, slipping into the ‘very poor’ category.Noida’s air quality index (AQI) rose to 324, up from 257 on Friday. Despite excess rainfall this Jan, the city has recorded significantly higher pollution levels than last year.
