Cuttack: A Sambalpur court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to two years’ rigorous imprisonment for operating a mule bank account allegedly used to facilitate cyber fraud.The JMFC court of Sambalpur district convicted Gauri Shankar Dash under Sections 317(2) and 112(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under each section. The sentences will run concurrently. Gurgaon: A 37-year-old man was killed and five others were injured after an SUV carrying six people crashed into a roadside tree on Atali-Korali Road on Tuesday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Manish, a resident of Khedi Kalan. The accident took place around 4pm and was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area.Police said Manish was sitting in the rear seat. Shillong: The anti-narcotics task force (ANTF), Meghalaya, conducted two operations on Aug 10 in the Umiam area, seizing 32.64 grams of heroin valued at about Rs 5 lakh and arresting two persons.Acting on specific inputs, ANTF teams set up checkpoints to intercept suspected traffickers headed towards Shillong. In the first operation, a vehicle was stopped at Lad Umiam. The occupant, Allan Marwein of Mawlai Nongkwar, Block-13, was searched and one soap case containing suspected heroin was recovered. Panaji: A four-decade-old power substation on the Goa University campus is being upgraded, with govt planning a new 33 kV substation at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.“The existing substation no longer has adequate capacity to meet the power requirements of the expanding campus,” said vice-chancellor Harilal B Menon.“The university’s present substation was designed at a time when the campus had considerably fewer buildings and facilities. Amritsar: Three youths travelling towards Amritsar on a motorcycle were killed after a speeding car rammed their two-wheeler on the Fatehgarh Churian-Sangatpura road on Tuesday.Jhander police station SHO Naresh Kumar said the deceased included Jagtar Singh, Sandeep Singh and Gurdeep Singh, all residents of Hardowal Kalan village.The impact was so intense that the car dragged the motorcycle for nearly 100 metres, leaving it completely wrecked, police said.The car driver was also injured and admitted to a hospital.
