BENGALURU: A late-night drunken rampage on Sir M Visvesvaraya Road in Nayappanahalli, Hulimavu, ended with two young women allegedly assaulting a cab driver, passers-by, and even police personnel after the driver questioned them for crashing their scooter into his car. The incident occurred between 10.45pm and 11pm Saturday.The driver, Ahmed Gurkar, 47, suffered injuries in the attack. According to police, the accused — Liza, 19, and Amran Mathew, 18 — are college students. The two had attended a party and were riding home on a scooter when they hit Ahmed’s Maruti Swift Dzire. The impact damaged the rear-left portion of the car and caused the girls to lose balance and fall.Ahmed said he first tried to help them. “ When they were leaving, I stopped them and told them to pay for the damage. They started abusing me and assaulted me,” he stated in his complaint.He alleged that they struck him with their hands and helmet and kicked him.Bystanders intervened. The situation escalated and the girls allegedly began attacking those gathered too.Ahmed said he removed the key from their scooter to prevent them from escaping. One of the girls ran into a nearby restaurant and hid while the other was held back by the crowd. Residents called police helpline 112, and a Hoysala patrol arrived at the spot. Even in front of police, the girls allegedly continued to hurl abuses. Nearly 15 police personnel, including women staff, were required to bring the situation under control.“It took us almost 15 minutes to get them into the Hoysala vehicle. They were not in a condition to listen to anyone,” a senior officer said.
