New Delhi: The city is expected to experience warm weather over the next few days, with temperatures spiking four-five degrees above the normal level. The maximum temperature could reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius on March 4, the day of Holi.On Thursday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius, about 4 degrees above the seasonal average. According to India Meteorological Department, daytime temperatures are likely to remain between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius until March 2. The mercury may then rise further to around 33 degrees Celsius on March 3 before touching 34 on Holi.
Weather analysts noted that though a weak western disturbance was expected from March 2, it would primarily affect the western Himalayan region. The plains, including Delhi, are unlikely to see any significant change in weather conditions. An IMD official said the system won’t bring rain to Delhi.Feb has been warm and dry. Except for Feb 2 and 18, maximum temperatures remained above normal throughout the month. The highest temperature was 31.6 degrees Celsius on Feb 16, the earliest in four years that the mercury crossed 30 degrees Celsius. IMD data from 2010 to 2025 shows Feb temperatures crossed 33 degrees Celsius only twice: 33.6 on Feb 21, 2023, and 33.2 on Feb 26, 2021. The all-time Feb record remains 34.1 degrees Celsius on Feb 26, 2006.The minimum temperature is also expected to rise gradually. Thursday’s minimum stood at 12.6 degrees Celsius, which was close to normal. Night temperatures are forecast to range between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius on Friday, and 15 and 17 on Saturday and on Holi.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality showed slight improvement, moving into the moderate category after 12 consecutive days in the poor range. The average AQI was 200 at 4pm on Thursday, compared to 228 a day earlier. However, it may turn poor again by Friday.
