GUWAHATI: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), a key ally in the Congress-led opposition bloc, released their manifesto for the assembly polls with an expansive governance roadmap which promises full implementation of the Assam Accord, transparent NRC, secure borders and foreigner-free rolls.The manifesto released by party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who will contest the election against BJP’s Chakradhar Gogoi in Khowang constituency in Dibrugarh district, proposes economic revival through fiscal reforms, land rights, MSMEs, agriculture, tea, textiles and cooperatives; better health, education, jobs and women’s safety; flood mitigation, green growth, digital governance, robust infrastructure, cultural protection, sports development, and inclusive and accountable administration for Assam’s future progress.
Lurinjyoti said his party will remain accountable to the public and use power as a tool for service. “We promise to do what we say. We will make no compromise in protecting Assam’s land, language, and culture,” he added.AJP in their manifesto said every clause of the Assam Accord will be fully implemented. “Central govt will be pressured to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) from Assam entirely. NRC will be reviewed with complete transparency. The India-Bangladesh border will be completely sealed. A foreigner-free voter list will be prepared,” it read.In the agriculture sector, it proposes to provide legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and set 100% irrigation of agricultural land.Making the police department free from political interference is another promise AJP has made in their manifesto. They promised to form a ‘Women’s Safety Force’ as well.The party has also promised to establish a film city in the name of singer Zubeen Garg. “State grants will be provided for Assamese film production. ‘Mini Cinema Halls’, with 100 seats will be constructed in rural areas,” the party said.
