Guwahati: WWF-India, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Assam, felicitated the top five performing schools under the ‘Mission Prakriti’ programme for the academic year 2025–26 at the State Mission Office of Samagra Shiksha, Assam. The event was attended by key dignitaries and education leaders from across the state.‘Mission Prakriti’ is a student-led initiative aimed at turning schools into environmentally sustainable spaces while strengthening ecological awareness among students. The programme is built around five key themes — biodiversity, water, waste, food, and energy—offering a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship.Those present on the occasion included Khanindra Das, OSD, Samagra Shiksha, Assam; Nirada Devi, director, SCERT; Suranjana Senapati, additional secretary to Assam govt, elementary education department, and director of elementary education; Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, state director – Assam and Arunachal Pradesh state office, WWF-India; Ranjit Chowdhury, chairperson, Assam advisory board; and Mala Kalita, consultant, SSA.Addressing the gathering, Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya underlined the scale and impact of the initiative in Assam: “Mission Prakriti is more than a programme — it is a movement that empowers students to become environmental leaders of tomorrow. By engaging with the five core themes, students are not only learning about sustainability but actively practising it in their schools and communities.”In Assam, Mission Prakriti is being implemented in 4,723 ICT-enabled schools across all districts. Based on evaluation rubrics developed to measure performance against defined milestones, five schools were honoured: Natun Fatasil Town HS, Kamrup (Metro); Sakai Khangia High School, Jorhat; Bishnu Jyoti MES, Sonitpur; PM Shri Jamira Higher Secondary School, Hailakandi; and PM Shri Gossaigaon Girls High School, Kokrajhar.Tinsukia was also recognised as the ‘best district’ for outstanding implementation, and nodal officers or representatives from the top 10 districts were honoured for their active participation in the programme.
