Congress ally Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, with party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi set to contest from the Khowang constituency.Mainak Patra has been fielded from Dibrugarh, while Pankaj Lochan Goswami will contest from Palasbari. Dilip Barua has been nominated as the party’s candidate from Bajali.

The party has also named Jiban Chutia as its candidate from Sarupathar. Rejaul Karim Chowdhury has been given the ticket from Binnakandi, while Bani Das will contest from Morigaon.
Former Union minister Rajen Gohain has been fielded from Berhampur. He left BJP and joined AJP.
AJP said that the candidature for Central Guwahati and Sadiya is yet to be finalised and will be announced in the next phase of the candidate list. AIUDF second list announced the names of 12 candidates. Earlier AIUDF had released a list of nine candidates.
In the second list three sitting MLAs namely Hafiz Bashir Ahmed, Nazrul Hoque, and Ashraful Hussain are provided party tickets. Also Read: Poll-bound Assam sees 200 CAPF companies deployed ahead of April 9 elections
The first list included three MLAs, Nizanur Rahman, who seeks to retain the Gauripur constituency, Aminul Islam, shifted from Dhing to the Rupahihat seat, and Rafiqul Islam, named from Mandia after Jania, the constituency he represents, ceased to exist after the 2023 delimitation exercise. Former Congress MLA Abu Taher Bepari, who joined the AIUDF in 2025, will contest from Parbatjhora.
Former AAMSU president Rejaul Karim Sarkar has been fielded from the Srijanpur constituency. In January, he resigned from Congress three days after joining it, following a backlash over his statement of turning Sivsagar in Upper Assam into Dhubri of Southern Assam. Dhubri is Muslim dominated area.
