Amritsar: The Amritsar Police Commissionerate on Thursday claimed to have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, arresting six accused, including a juvenile, and recovering seven sophisticated pistols, including five Glock 9mm and two .30 bore weapons.Commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with a foreign-based handler operating from Portugal, who facilitated the smuggling of illegal arms from Pakistan. The accused further supplied these illicit weapons to criminal elements.A case has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, and further investigation is underway. Cordon & search operationMeanwhile, a large-scale cordon and search operation (CASO) was conducted on Thursday across all three zones of the Amritsar Commissionerate under the supervision of the respective deputy commissioners of police (DCPs). The operation involved the deployment of three additional deputy commissioners of police (ADCPs), five assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), and five station house officers (SHOs), along with NGOs/ORs and specialised teams, including QRT, ARP, SOG, and SWAT, with a total strength of 385 personnel. The CASO is currently underway at six identified locations, including Anngarh, Gujjarpura, Gumtala, Mustafabad, Maqboolpura (Gali No. 2 to 12), and Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Flats.
