Patiala: Punjab minister Aman Arora on Saturday laid foundation stones for development projects worth approximately Rs 18.20 crore in the Sunam assembly constituency, as the state govt undertook large-scale works to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve basic amenities. The projects included widening of roads, construction of new roads and other development works, aimed at improving transportation facilities in villages, providing better amenities to residents and connecting rural areas with modern infrastructure.In village Sanghereri, the village phirni was set to be widened from 10 feet to 18 feet at a cost of about Rs 45 lakh. The Sanghereri–Sunam–Bhawanigarh road was also set to be widened from 10 feet to 18 feet at a cost of Rs 2.12 crore, while the Sanghereri to Nagra road was set to be widened from 10 feet to 18 feet at a cost of Rs 1.89 crore.In village Bijalpur, a project costing around Rs 3 crore was approved to widen the village phirni road as well as the road leading to Basiyark from 10 feet to 18 feet. In village Nagra, the works included construction of a new road from Nagra–Khanpur road to Nagra–Gujran road at a cost of Rs 1.05 crore, construction of a new road from the village phirni to the mosque and gaushala at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, widening of the Nagra to Gharachon road from 10 feet to 18 feet at a cost of Rs 2.12 crore, and construction of a new road from Nagra to Nagri–BSBK road at a cost of Rs 91.25 lakh.In addition, Rs 50 lakh was earmarked for construction of a memorial gate dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib Ji, along with other development works. Apart from this, other development works worth Rs 3.60 crore and Rs 1.87 crore were also initiated.He said that once the works were completed, transportation facilities for villagers would significantly improve and it would also accelerate the economic and social development of the region.
