Jhansi: The sleuths of the anti-corruption department apprehended an upper division clerk from the office of the Additional Director of Education here on Thursday while accepting Rs 7,000 bribe from an individual for reviewing his application for an advance against his general provident fund, which he required for the marriage of his daughter.The complainant, Rajkumar Singh, a clerk in Bundelkhand Inter College, Madhawgarh, Jalaun district, applied for a loan of Rs 16 lakh, intended for his daughter’s marriage. According to him, his application, after completing the due process in his district, reached the divisional office in the AD Basic office in Jhansi and was under consideration by the clerk Rakesh Chandra Sharma, who demanded a bribe of Rs 7,000 and began delaying the process. Consequently, Rajkumar was forced to postpone the scheduled wedding date.He subsequently approached the anti-corruption department, which set a trap on Thursday. The complainant was provided with currency notes treated with a special chemical to hand over to Sharma. As soon as the accused clerk accepted the money, he was apprehended red-handed.Inspector Thakurdas, who led the vigilance team, confirmed an FIR was lodged against the accused under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Sadar Bazar police station. “He will be produced before the special court for the prevention of corruption in Lucknow and will be kept under judicial custody there,” he added.Meanwhile, a sense of commotion prevailed in the education department as this marked the third vigilance raid and arrest in just a few months.
