Rohtak: A woman from Andhra Pradesh accused a man from Tilak Nagar here of sexually exploiting her on the pretext of marriage and defrauding her of nearly Rs 40 lakh. The woman claimed that the man befriended her through a matrimonial website and later performed a fake marriage, describing himself as an “Arya Samaji”.According to the woman, the accused not only sexually exploited her but also took large sums of money from her in the name of building a house. She further alleged that the accused’s brother was posted as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Gurugram police and a compromise letter prepared at the police station mysteriously disappeared.Speaking to the mediapersons here on Tuesday, the woman said she first connected with the Rohtak-based man through a matrimonial website in 2022. The two remained in regular contact over the phone for nearly six-seven months. During this period, the accused gradually gained her trust. The woman alleged that in 2023, the man travelled to Andhra Pradesh. There, at a seashore, he symbolically accepted her as his wife by taking water in his hands and declaring the marriage. When she insisted on performing proper wedding rituals, he claimed that as a strict follower of Arya Samaj, this was the form of marriage practised in his tradition. He also refused to register the marriage legally. The woman said the accused stayed with her in Andhra Pradesh for about four months, living with her as her husband. During this time, he allegedly took around Rs 40 lakh from her under the pretext of constructing a house. Later, he suddenly left for Rohtak without informing her and switched off his mobile phone. After waiting for a long time, the woman eventually travelled to Rohtak to find him and filed a complaint with the police. She alleged that the accused later entered into a compromise with her inside a police station. The woman further claimed that even after this, he continued to sexually exploit her by taking her to hotels. The woman also alleged that the accused’s brother, who is posted as an ASI in Gurugram police, was influencing the local police, which is why no strict action was taken in the case so far.According to the woman, during one of the meetings at the police station, the accused admitted his mistake in front of social organisations and signed a written compromise letter. However, when she later asked the police for a copy of that document, she was told that no such letter existed in the station records.Sub-inspector Ankita, SHO, Civil Lines police station here, said a zero FIR was registered and case transferred to Visakhapatnam for further investigation.
