JAMMU, FEB 6: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah today chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu.
This is the second security review meeting chaired by the Union home minister within a month. On January 8, Shah chaired a high-level review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir security in Delhi, and directed continuation of counter-terror operations targeting terror infrastructure and financing in “mission mode”. He also asserted that all resources will be made available to achieve the goal of “terror-free” Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah appreciated the efforts of the security agencies in dismantling the terror eco-system in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the terror eco-system nurtured by elements inimical to our country in J&K has been almost crippled due to the concerted efforts of the Modi Government.
Amit Shah reiterated unwavering commitment of the Modi government to attain the goal of terror-free Jammu and Kashmir. Innovative measures to further reinforce the watertight security cordon were also discussed in the meeting.
Union Home Minister said that efforts for de-radicalisation have seen major success in accelerating our vision for a terror-free J&K. He instructed for taking more steps for youth engagement. Shah stressed that major initiatives to build up start-up ecosystem, sports sector etc. need to be taken to ensure youths are engaged in income generating activities.
Amit Shah directed all security agencies to remain alert and continue work in a coordinated mode to ensure that the gains achieved in recent times are sustained and the goal of ‘terror free J&K’ is achieved at the earliest. Shah assured that all the resources will be made available in this endeavour.
The meeting assumes significance amid stepped up anti-terror operations that led to neutralisation of four hardened Pakistan-native terrorists linked with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) following nearly a dozen encounters in Kathua, Udhampur and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region over the past two weeks.
Besides the Army chief, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding Jammu-based White Knight Corps Lt Gen P K Mishra, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Praveen Kumar, Central Reserve Police Force DG G P Singh, and other senior military, police, civil and intelligence officers attended the meeting at the Lok Bhavan, officials said.
The meeting started shortly after the Shah’s return from the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district where he visited border outposts and addressed the BSF troops, officials said.
They said the meeting is expected to review the ongoing anti-terrorist operations and the anti-infiltration grid, besides the measures taken to counter drone activities from across the border, amid intelligence reports suggesting the presence of terrorists waiting for an opportunity to infiltrate into India.
Earlier, the home secretary had also chaired a review meeting here during his two-day visit on January 14 and 15.
After the security review meeting ended, the Home Minister interacted with the families of the martyrs and handed over the appointment letters to the NOKs of the martyrs, sources added.
Meanwhile, the Home Minister will chair a meeting on the development of Jammu and Kashmir at 10:30 am on Saturday at Lok Bhavan, Jammu, to review progress on key development initiatives and future plans for the Union Territory.
