The US Supreme Court on Wednesday heard arguments from both sides concerning President Donald Trump’s executive order limiting birthright citizenship.
The Supreme Court appeared sceptical of Trump’s order, a sign the high court could strike down a key element of his immigration agenda. The administration has argued that limiting birthright citizenship is necessary to rein in illegal immigration. Opponents argue it would upend more than a century of precedent and unravel a cornerstone of US immigration law.
The BBC’s Ione Wells spoke with protesters and attendees outside the hearing.
