Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) launched a special drive from Monday to remove water hyacinth from Ambazari Lake through its Solid Waste Management Department. The initiative is expected to help reduce pollution levels in the lake.A few days ago, mayor Neeta Thakre had inspected Ambazari Lake and directed the civic administration to undertake the removal of water hyacinth on a war footing. She also instructed officials to stop the inflow of contaminated water entering the lake.
TOI constantly highlighted the issue of weeds in Ambazari Lake. Following the Mayor’s directives, the water hyacinth eradication campaign commenced today. The Solid Waste Management Department deployed 4 poclain machines to carry out the removal work. The excessive growth of water hyacinth contributed significantly to the pollution of Ambazari Lake’s water.Dharampeth zone officer Lokesh Basanwar informed as per the instructions of Mayor Neeta Thakre, the number of poclain machines will be increased if required to expedite the removal process.
