Surat: On Thursday, rain lashed Navsari and Tapi districts, with Khergam, Chikhli, Dolvan, Gandevi and Navsari talukas receiving substantial rain. After the downpours, alerts were issued to those living near the banks of the Ambika, Purna and Kaveri rivers. The Navsari district administration maintained a high alert, monitoring weather conditions, including rainfall data every two hours, dam levels and river levels. From 8am to 8pm on Thursday, Navsari district had received 65mm of rain in Navsari taluka, 108mm in Khergam — the highest — followed by 101mm in Chikhli, 47mm in Vansda, 67mm in Gandevi and 45mm in Jalalpore. Overall, the district received an average of 72mm of rain on the day. For the season’s total rainfall, Navsari taluka has received 283mm, Jalalpore 210mm, Gandevi 314mm, Chikhli 429mm, Khergam 707mm, and Vansda 492mm. The district’s average total seasonal rainfall so far is 406mm. The Juj Dam level was 158.25 feet and the Kaliya Dam 106.10 feet at 6pm on Thursday. By 6pm, the Ambika river was flowing at 19.35 feet, below the danger mark of 28 feet. The Purna river was at 16.5 feet compared to the danger mark of 23 feet, while the Kaveri was at 16.5 feet against the danger mark of 19 feet. The roads and buildings department reported that 92 roads under the Navsari district panchayat were blocked due to overtopping. These included 28 roads in Vansda taluka, 10 in Khergam, 29 in Chikhli, 15 in Gandevi, 2 in Jalalpore, and 8 in Navsari taluka. To prevent disruption of traffic, the district administration requested the use of alternative routes. Police arrangements are in place on all these roads. In Tapi district, Dolvan taluka received the most rainfall, 79mm. The Tapi district administration closed 13 panchayat roads due to overtopping.
