Guwahati: AIUDF chief and perfume baron, Badruddin Ajmal, contesting the assembly polls from Binnakandi, has declared assets worth over Rs 222 crore in his latest affidavit — a sharp rise from the Rs 151.71 crore he declared during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.Ajmal re-entered state’s electoral arena, seeking to reclaim ground lost after 2024 Lok Sabha election defeat in Dhubri — a seat he held for three uninterrupted terms from 2009. The 70-year-old businessman-politician, whose family-run fragrance house Ajmal Perfumes is a global brand, will contest from the newly carved Binnakandi constituency in Hojai district, marking his return to state-level politics.According to the affidavit, Ajmal’s immovable assets now stand at Rs 169.90 cr , up from Rs 123.36 crore he declared two years ago during Lok Sabha elections. His movable assets have also jumped to Rs 52. 43 crore compared to Rs 28.34 crore in 2024. This marks an overall increase of more than Rs 70 crore in just two years.Ajmal’s portfolio includes nine cars, four houses in Mumbai and Delhi valued at Rs 57.72 crore at current market rates, a licensed pistol, and extensive holdings in companies ranging from real estate and nature care to aromatics. His spouse, Rizwaana Badruddin Ajmal, has declared movable assets worth Rs 31.08 lakh and immovable assets of Rs 6.82 lakh.His immovable assets include agricultural and non-agricultural land as well as residential properties spread across Assam, Karnataka and other states.The affidavit also lists liabilities of Rs 4.45 crore, largely loans from financial institutions.
