Ahmedabad: An 84-year-old executive director of a private firm in the city was allegedly cheated of Rs 1 lakh by two unidentified men who falsely claimed that his car caused an accident and shoulder fracture. According to the complaint filed by the Ambawadi resident, the incident occurred around 11am on Wednesday when he was driving to his office in Usmanpura.The complainant stated that at around 11 am, near a school opposite NABARD Bank in Usmanpura, a scooter rider stopped his car and alleged that the car had hit his scooter, causing his employer to fall and injure his shoulder. When the elderly man denied any collision, the accused allegedly insisted that he accompany them. The complainant said he was first taken near Sardar Patel Society, where another man claimed to have suffered a shoulder injury. He was then taken to Delhi Darwaja on the pretext of consulting a bone-setter and later to Asarwa Civil Hospital after being told the injury was serious.At the hospital, one of the accused allegedly told him that doctors had advised surgery and that treatment would cost Rs 1.70 lakh. When the victim said he could not arrange the amount immediately, the two men allegedly threatened him and demanded that the money be arranged the same day. Police said the man, frightened by the threats, went to his bank branch in Nehrunagar, withdrew Rs 1 lakh in cash and handed it over to one of the accused. He also issued a cheque of Rs 70,000, but later stopped payment after suspecting he had been cheated. Vasna police registered a case of extortion and criminal conspiracy against two unidentified persons.
