Ahmedabad: New development along the Sardar Patel Ring Road corridor from Vastral to Kamod in eastern Ahmedabad is expected to increase future demand for drinking water. Considering this, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s water and sewerage committee on Friday approved a proposal to build a new 100 MLD water treatment plant at the Raska Water Treatment Plant premises at an estimated cost of Rs 48.5 crore.Water and sewerage committee chairman Dilip Bagaria said a 200 MLD water treatment plant at Raska has been operational since 2010 and currently supplies treated water to distribution stations in the city’s eastern and southern zones.
He said the raw water source capacity at Raska is 300 MLD, and the 2,100mm pipeline from Raska to Ahmedabad can carry up to 300 MLD. In view of the planned growth in the Vastral-to-Kamod stretch, the civic body has planned an additional 100 MLD treatment capacity at Raska. Officials said space constraints at the Raska site have necessitated coordination with the govt for land acquisition. The new plant is planned adjacent to the existing water treatment facility.
