NEW DELHI: The Aggarwal family’s tragic ordeal has come to a heartbreaking end. After losing eight members in the hotel fire that broke out in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar last week, the family’s sole survivor, 75-year-old Radhe Shyam Aggarwal, passed away on Tuesday, leaving no surviving members behind.What was meant to be a family gathering in support of an ailing loved one turned into an unimaginable tragedy that wiped out almost an entire branch of the Aggarwal family.The family had travelled to Delhi to be near 75-year-old Radheshyam Aggarwal, who was undergoing treatment for a lung infection at Max Hospital in Saket.
To remain close to him during his treatment, several relatives checked into a nearby hotel, where a devastating fire later claimed their lives.Among the victims were Radheshyam’s wife, Premlata (70); their son, Vivek (47); daughter-in-law, Tarjani (42); and granddaughter Varya, fondly known as Pearl (16), all residents of Gurgaon. Vivek’s elder daughter, Jivisha, known as Angel (20), had arrived from Bengaluru just hours before the blaze.Also killed were Premlata’s sister, Kamla (52); brother, Ashok (56); and brother-in-law, Jhaveri, who had travelled from Kishangarh in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district. Family members said the three had initially planned to return home earlier but extended their stay to spend more time with relatives.The victims were remembered by family and friends as accomplished individuals with bright futures ahead. Vivek worked as the chief financial officer of a private insurtech company, while Tarjani, a former beauty pageant winner, was employed with an event management firm. Angel was pursuing a BTech degree, and Pearl was a Class 12 student at DPS Gurgaon.The scale of the tragedy has left relatives, friends and neighbours struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Death toll rises to 22The death toll in the Malviya Nagar bed and breakfast fire tragedy has risen to 22 after a forgein national died while undergoing treatment on Sunday.The victim was from Nigeria.The incident occurred on June 3 at the Flourish Inn hotel, where a major fire broke out, killing several people and injuring many others.
Locked terrace, single exit, no fire systems: Lapses exposed in Delhi hotel fire caseAn initial probe revealed serious violations at the establishment. Illegal construction, a locked terrace, absence of fire safety systems, a single entry and exit point, and lack of basic firefighting arrangements were reported.The building, Flourish Stay Bed and Breakfast, was licensed to operate as a six-room property but had reportedly expanded into a 25-room hotel. Its B&B licence was valid till 2027.Senior fire officials also found that the premises lacked essential fire safety measures such as smoke detectors, automated fire alarms, and sprinkler systems, and had no fire safety No Objection Certificate (NOC).
