Ahmedabad: A report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on political donations above Rs 20,000 made to major political parties in the financial year 2024-25 indicated that Gujarat was the third-largest donor with Rs 309.2 crore, behind Delhi and Maharashtra. It was prepared based on the details submitted by the parties to the Election Commission of India (ECI) till Sep 30 last year, said ADR officials.‘Segregation of donations according to state was made by ADR based on the addresses provided by the parties in their donations report to the ECI. A total of Rs 2,639.4 crore was donated to the national parties from Delhi, followed by Rs 2,438.8 crore from Maharashtra and Rs 309.1 crore from Gujarat,’ read the report.According to the report, about 3,244 donations to the national parties were made by corporate/businesses amounting to Rs 6,128.8 crore, which accounted for over 92% of the total donations. Individuals donated Rs 505.6 crore, which accounted for 7.6%. From Gujarat, about 4.6% of total donations were made, where Rs 250.4 crore was donated by corporate/business houses, Rs 57.5 crore by individuals, and Rs 1 crore by party units or unions. In terms of corporate or business donations, too, Gujarat stood third in the country, according to the report.
