Hyderabad: Task force police picked up four accused in a theft case at real estate businessman Anirudh Reddy’s house in Jubilee Hills on March 14. As two of the four accused are in Nepal, proceedings have been initiated for their extradition.On the intervening night of March 13 and 14, the accused Mahesh Shahi and Apsara Shahi, both natives of Nepal, committed theft at their employer Anirudh Reddy’s house, and fled the city with jewellery worth Rs 2 crore.At the time of the offence, Reddy and his wife were in Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. Taking advantage of their absence, the duo, who were living in the basement of the duplex house, broke into the bedrooms on the first floor using crowbars. They forcibly opened cupboards and almirahs in the rooms. Anirudh and his wife, Deepika, informed police that they lost gold, diamond jewellery and luxury watches, all worth about Rs 2 crore.The couple, through their neighbour, lodged a complaint with Jubilee Hills police on March 14, and a case was registered against Mahesh Shahi and Apsara Shahi under Sections 306 (Theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master), 305(a) (Theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship etc), r/w 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS.Task force police verified the CCTV footage at different places and analysed the phone communication of the accused and their associates. The police team realised that the original names of Mahesh and Apsara are Prakash and Maya. Recently, the team got a tip-off that the two accused returned to their homes in Nepal. With the help of Nepal police, the duo was caught. “We have initiated proceedings to extradite the duo,” said a Jubilee Hills police official.Based on the information from the duo, police have nabbed two other associates from Delhi and Nagpur. “They left most of the stolen property with an associate in Nagpur. We have recovered a major portion of the stolen property,” said a senior official.
