Panaji: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced Geetesh Naik as its candidate for the Ponda assembly byelection in Goa scheduled on April 9.
Naik joined AAP on Wednesday in the presence of the party’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, at Ponda in South Goa district.

Bypoll to the Ponda assembly segment has been necessitated due to the death of sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and then Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik on October 15 last year.
AAP Goa desk in-charge Atishi and state president Valmiki Naik in a statement on Thursday announced Geetesh Naik as the party’s candidate for the byelection.
The ruling BJP has fielded Ritesh Ravi Naik, son of Ravi Naik, while the Congress has announced Dr Ketan Bhatikar as its candidate for the bypoll.
