Gandhinagar: Voting for the Umreth Assembly constituency byelection will be held from 7am to 6pm on Thursday. As many as 2,45,623 eligible voters will exercise their franchise in the bypoll which was necessitated because of the death of MLA Govind Parmar.The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Harshad Parmar, the son of the late legislator, while the Congress and other local factions are also vying for the seat.An official statement said that 4,174 voters will be exercising their voting rights for the first time, and 1,556 senior voters above the age of 85 will also participate in the voting. A total of 306 polling stations have been set up, with 68 in urban areas and 238 in rural areas. To ensure a smooth process, 1,400 polling staff and police personnel have been deployed across the district.In view of the increase in daytime temperatures, ORS packets will be placed at all polling stations on the day of voting to provide primary facilities in case any voter faces difficulties due to heat or heatwave effects, the statement said. District authorities have also ensured that drinking water and shaded waiting areas are available for everyone.
