Chennai: Public libraries in the city will host month-long free summer camps for students, offering art workshops, interactive games, storytelling contests, puzzles and language lessons. The camps will be held as part of the annual ‘Kodai Kondattam’ festivities of the directorate of public libraries, in collaboration with readers’ circles. Staff at full-time libraries have been asked to make arrangements. “Students winning contests at the camps will be felicitated at the end. A detailed schedule will be out after the elections. The idea is to keep students engaged and offer them a digital detoxification,” said M Kavitha, district library officer.Events under the camps include magic shows, storytelling sessions, folk arts, craft workshops, science demonstrations, drama, puppetry, dance, puzzles and interactive games. “Apart from the regular programmes, we have decided to impart courses on French, chess, and robotics for students up to the age of 14 between May 1 and 31,” said Kamatchi, chief librarian, Anna Centenary Library.
