CUDDALORE: A 45-year-old woman sustained severe burn injuries in a fire accident after the gas leaked from the stove at her house on Wednesday morning at Vadalur in Cuddalore district. Police said M Sara, the second wife of Mohamed Rafique, 50, owning a shop selling steel utensils, went to the kitchen around 10.30am to cook lunch.Police said gas was leaking from the three burners in the stove. The woman did not notice the leakage and lit one of the burners, leading to a major explosion. Fire engulfed her, and a portion of the house collapsed in the impact of the explosion. Her neighbours alerted police, fire and rescue services personnel. A team reached the spot and rescued the woman from the debris and rushed her to a govt hospital.The condition of the woman, who sustained 90% burn injuries, is said to be critical. Vadalur police registered a case and began investigations.
