Jalandhar: A Punjab Police DSP reportedly died from a bullet fired from his service weapon on Tuesday morning at his residence in the police complex in Phagwara. Police officials claimed that it was an ‘accidental fire’ as the DSP was cleaning his service weapon at the time of the incident.DSP Yogesh Sharma, in his mid-50s, was working in anti-narcotics task force and was recently shifted to bureau of investigation, state headquarters. “He was at his residence in the police complex and his family was also present. The incident took place around 7.30am. The bullet pierced through his chest. He was rushed to a hospital by his family and the police personnel, but by the time he reached there, he had died,” said Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma.“After given new posting, he was to deposit his service weapon, and he was cleaning it, when a bullet was fired accidentally,” said SP Sharma.
