Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway has upgraded infrastructure and academic facilities at Railway Higher Secondary School, Maligaon, to improve learning conditions and strengthen national-level competitiveness through the adoption of the CBSE curriculum.Under the initiative, old furniture, including desks, benches, tables and chairs, has been fully replaced in 19 classrooms from Class I to Class XII with new, modern furniture. New tables and chairs have also been provided for the Teachers’ Common Room, along with better furnishings for the library and staff areas, including cabinets and a sofa set.NFR chief public relations officer (CPRO) KK Sharma said, “These upgrades are designed to create a more comfortable and conducive learning and working environment for both students and staff.”To boost digital learning, six smart boards have been procured and installed in higher classes, while installation in the remaining classes is in progress.The general manager of NFR, along with other senior officials of the zone, recently visited the school to inspect the newly installed furniture and smart boards and expressed satisfaction with the improvements, railway officials said.Although run by the railways, the school serves both railway and non-railway students and offers quality education at a nominal cost, including to students from the BPL category.At present, around 7% of enrolled students are from railway families, while 93% are non-railway students.
