Noida: A man was arrested for allegedly heckling and harassing a Muslim couple in Gaur City 2, triggering a sharp public backlash that was captured in a video posted online.Police said the accused, allegedly drunk, got into a late-night confrontation with the couple near White Orchid market on Thursday, before bystanders stepped in and challenged his behaviour.The accused was identified as Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Ram Shyam Enclave in Chipiyana Buzurg. According to police in Bisrakh, the dispute began when Imran and his wife, who was in a hijab, were standing near Kumar’s car and he objected to it. The argument quickly escalated into a verbal altercation, drawing a crowd.In a video posted on X, passersby are seen backing the couple and rebuking Kumar. Some people alleged he was intoxicated, while others accused him of targeting the couple because of their religion.Imran later filed a complaint at Bisrakh police station, following which Kumar was taken into custody. Police said an FIR was registered against him under sections 170 (arrest to prevent commission of cognisable offences), 126 (security for keeping peace in other cases) and 135-B (inquiry as to truth of information) of BNSS.
