Mangaluru: The Silicon Beach Program (SBP) on Saturday launched BaseCamp, an initiative aimed at enabling companies, founders and professionals to set up nano global capability centres (GCCs) and satellite offices in coastal Karnataka.Introduced as part of SBP’s broader vision to position the region as the Silicon Beach of India, BaseCamp is designed to help global companies seamlessly establish and scale operations, from entity setup to talent acquisition and infrastructure support. “BaseCamp makes it easier for companies to start and scale from coastal Karnataka. From the first conversation to the first hire, we support every step, handling compliance, hiring and on-ground logistics so teams can hit the ground running from day one,” said Rohith Bhat, SBP convener and founder of wrkwrk, 99Games and Robosoft.SBP has partnered with experienced experts from Bengaluru who have set up multiple GCCs. The initiative builds on strong momentum in the region, which saw over 40 companies and more than 8,000 IT jobs created in the past two years. Under the HomeComing initiative, job offers are expected to be extended to nearly 31 professionals.“Even one experienced professional relocating here can create opportunities for 10 fresh graduates,” Bhat noted.Mangaluru City North MLA Bharath Shetty Y formally launched the initiative. Shetty described BaseCamp as a zero-profit initiative. “There are no fees involved. This is a collaborative effort to support businesses coming to Mangaluru. It should be viewed without any ideological or political lens,” he said.He noted that while companies may initially hesitate due to unfamiliarity with the ecosystem, BaseCamp provides a structured support system. Nagaraj Acharya of Vinyl Equity, a US-based startup, said the company chose Mangaluru over metro cities after evaluating multiple options. “We wanted the convenience of a big city without the chaos. With the infrastructure and ecosystem available here, the choice became obvious,” he said.Vishal Kanchan of Entrupy said the company built a base in Bengaluru, where it currently employs around 70 people as part of its global workforce of about 250. “We started with five people in Mangaluru last year. The success came quickly, and today we have over 40 employees here. We have plans to scale further, including a 24/7 support centre,” he said.
