Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday said the delimitation bill would have amended the Constitution for political means of the ruling regime to increase the seats, reduce the voice of many states and enable the gerrymandering of constituencies to ensure unfair victories. Aaditya said this bill has been defeated in Parliament. Aaditya ssid ti was actually a ‘Delimitation to ensure unfair victory Bill’. Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut clarified that the opposition supported the Women’s Reservation Bill and passed it in 2023 itself. Raut said the fact that the bill was not passed yesterday is not the opposition party’s success, it is the people’s success.“This is the victory of the women of the country. We voted against the fraud that was going on in the name of women. We are not against women’s reservation, but this bill was passed in 2023 itself and 33% of the seats should be reserved. The women of the country are with us. They buy their votes by giving women money. Stop giving them money, then you will understand who the women are with,” said Raut. “The very Amendment would have ensured the total defeat of democracy and the Constitution in India. The Bill should have been called ‘Delimitation to ensure unfair victory Bill’. A genuine need is to enable 33% reservation in the current number of seats! Now it is upto the govt to ensure that it is implemented in the 543 seats of the Lok Sabha for the 2029 elections and all elections across India- if that is the real intent of the govt,” Aaditya said in a post on X.
