Ludhiana: A brazen assault inside a regional police station has led to a breakthrough in a high-profile cold case, with a suspect arrested for attacking a village official’s son allegedly confessing to the murder of a local kabaddi star.Amritpal Singh was taken into custody following a violent clash within the Raikot police station premises, where he allegedly targeted the son of a local Sarpanch. During interrogation, Amritpal Singh reportedly admitted to his involvement in the fatal shooting of athlete Gagandeep Singh earlier this year. The arrest follows a chaotic scene late Sunday evening during a mediation session intended to resolve a long-standing dispute between two rival groups. According to witnesses, a clash erupted inside the Raikot police station. Baljit Singh, the son of Tajpur Sarpanch Hardev Kaur, told authorities he was attacked by a group of men while attempting to reach his vehicle. “The accused attacked me inside the station and followed me to my car,” Baljit Singh said. “When I ran back inside the station to save my life, they attacked me again.”While Amritpal Singh was initially booked for attempted murder regarding the station house assault, Ludhiana police confirmed that questioning shifted to the Jan. 5 murder of kabaddi player Gagandeep Singh in Manuke village.A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Singh confessed to the athlete’s shooting. His name will now be formally added to the murder investigation currently registered at the Hathur police station. The revelation has drawn sharp criticism from local residents, who questioned how a suspect in a high-profile murder remained at large and felt emboldened enough to launch an assault inside a police facility.
