Tosham: A district-level ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ programme held in Tosham on Thursday turned into a strong show of support for women’s political empowerment, with Haryana women and child development minister Shruti Choudhry asserting that the proposed women reservation bill will usher in a new era of inclusive governance.Addressing a large gathering at Tikona Park, Choudhry said the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam reflects the “far-sighted vision” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. “Greater participation of women in decision-making will accelerate balanced and sustainable development,” she said.Highlighting the Centre’s initiatives, Choudhry referred to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign launched in 2015 from Panipat, noting that it has contributed to improving the sex ratio and changing societal attitudes towards the girl child. “From discrimination to celebration, the journey reflects a significant shift in mindset,” she said. She also pointed out that Haryana has already implemented 50% reservation for women in panchayats and urban local bodies, resulting in visible grassroots leadership by women. “Today, women are not only participating but also leading and making independent decisions,” she added.
