Shimla: A first-year BTech student of a private university in Waknaghat, Solan district, allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a hostel balcony late Wednesday night, triggering protests on campus.The student sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, where he is undergoing treatment.Students staged a late-night protest, alleging that security personnel delayed taking the injured student to hospital until senior university officials arrived.Solan SP Abhishek Sekar said the student is currently unfit to give a statement. “Further action will be taken once his statement is recorded,” he said.Police teams from Kandaghat police station are conducting enquiries, interacting with students and university authorities.The SP said the situation on campus is now peaceful and urged respect for the privacy of the student and his family.
