Hassan: Dasara elephant Sugreeva attacked its handler at a temporary camp in Bikkodu village in Hassan’s Belur taluk Thursday, leaving him with serious abdominal injuries.The injured Raju, the elephant’s kavaadi, is undergoing treatment at the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) and the doctors said he is out of danger.According to sources, the incident occurred when Raju was bathing Sugreeva. The tamed elephant attacked Raju, and one of its tusks pierced his stomach. Raju was first taken to a hospital in Belur and later transferred to one in Hassan. Doctors performed surgery and admitted him to the intensive care unit for observation. He is responding to treatment and will be shifted to the ward once he recovers, doctors said.Sugreeva and other tamed elephants had been brought to Bikkodu for a rescue operation involving an elephant that killed a farmer Sunday.
