Bathinda: Gurpreet Singh ‘Garry’, a 29-year-old local businessman, was found dead with a gunshot wound to his forehead in his SUV near Pandori village on the Moga-Jalandhar highway on Wednesday afternoon. While police claim Garry, who owned a prominent clothing showroom at Dharamkot in Moga district, committed suicide with his licensed weapon, the family rejected the theory. They claimed he had received an extortion threat and was provided with a gunman, who was not with him on the fateful day. Garry’s father, Kulwant Singh, told the media that Garry had gone to get his SUV serviced. “When he did not answer calls, we grew worried. Using the vehicle’s GPS, employees tracked the SUV and found Garry slumped in the driver’s seat. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.” Garry was married and the father of two children. Moga SP (investigations) Bal Krishan Singla told TOI preliminary investigations show Garry shot himself with his licensed weapon, acknowledging that family members mentioned he had been under some stress. The SP said Garry got a threat over a year ago and a policeman was provided to him as security, but there were no active threats now. Leader of opposition in state assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, and Shiromani Akali Dal functionary Bikram Singh Majithia, in separate social media posts, said Garry was killed and raised questions over the law and order situation in the state.MSID:: 130284358 413 |
