Varanasi: A woman, who checked into a hotel on Mall Road under Cantt police station in the city using a fake address on Saturday, sustained bullet injuries following a late-night altercation with her boyfriend.The incident came to light when the private hospital, where she was admitted, reported the matter to police on Sunday.After ascertaining the identity of her boyfriend, police arrested him on Monday and launched an investigation against the hotel for concealing the incident. The police also seized the pistol used in the incident and live cartridges from him.ACP (Cantt) Apoorva Pandey said that preliminary investigation by Cantt Inspector Shivakant Mishra revealed the woman, aged around 23 years and a graduation student from Manduadih police station area, had booked a room at a hotel on Mall Road on April 11 using an identity showing an address from Ghazipur. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, Shubham Rai (34), a resident of Chaklola village under Kapsethi police station limits.The couple got into a dispute the same night, during which the woman sustained a bullet injury. CCTV footage from the hotel showed that around 2am, Rai took the injured woman out of the room with a towel wrapped around her neck, informing hotel staff that she had suffered a throat injury. He then admitted her to a private hospital in Maldahiya area under Sigra police station, where her actual address in Manduadih was recorded.On Sunday, the hospital staff alerted Sigra police about the incident. Following initial investigation, Sigra cops alerted Cantt police. The girl’s father later lodged a named FIR against Rai.Inspector Cantt said that a notice has been issued to the hotel management seeking an explanation for not reporting the incident to authorities despite its seriousness. Further action against the hotel will be decided based on their response.Police are also investigating to find out how the illegal pistol was arranged by Rai and the intention of bringing it.
