Ranchi: City consumers continue to wait for refills for long despite repeated directives from state food and civil supplies minister Irfan Ansari and the Ranchi district administration prohibiting LPG purchase on roads.Ranchi district administration, on April 4, issued a directive to LPG distributors to ensure that no customer visits godowns and depots of LPG distributors to collect cylinders. Ansari, on April 9, convened a meeting with petroleum company officials and district supply officers and warned LPG distributors of stringent action if they were found delivering cylinders to consumers on roads.
However, around 100 families of Netaji Nagar in Kantatoli queued up on a road from early Sunday morning to purchase cylinders, after failing to get cylinders for days.Manish Kumar alleged that the LPG distributor never delivered cylinders to their homes. “Although the minister and the administration have ordered to ensure doorstep delivery of cylinders, the ground reality is completely different to that. I received delivery authentication codes four times since March, but every time the code expires as the agency is not providing a cylinder,” he added.Another local, Harish Singh, said that he booked a cylinder around 15 days ago, but has not been able to purchase a cylinder. “I queued up from around 4 am on Sunday, but despite waiting for hours, I had to return empty-handed. The minister concerned recently said that the situation will be brought to normal within a week, but I have doubts on that,” Singh added.Ranchi deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said the district administration is monitoring the situation and “the administration is trying to streamline the situation across the district”.
