T’puram: A couple was injured after a spotted deer suddenly leapt onto the road and collided with their motorcycle near Vazhappally on Saturday evening. The injured have been identified as Santosh, 34, of Pachakkad, Kunnumpuram and his wife Keerthi, 28. The two were travelling from Kottoor to Kuttichal when the animal jumped across the road around 6.30pm, knocking the bike off balance and throwing them onto the road. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the impact and cries for help and shifted them to a private hospital in Kattakkada. Hospital sources said Santosh sustained serious injuries, while Keerthi is reported to be stable. Residents said accidents involving wild animals are frequent in the Kottoor-Kuttichal stretch, particularly during the evening. “This is the third such incident in two weeks. Deer, wild boar and even buffaloes often stray onto the road from nearby forest areas,” Mohan S, a resident, said. They alleged that lack of warning signs, street lighting and preventive measures made the stretch increasingly dangerous for commuters. Locals demanded urgent intervention from forest and motor vehicle authorities to prevent further accidents.
