Chennai: Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing arrested six people in connection with the online leak of the Tamil film ‘Jana Nayagan’. The police however did not reveal the identities of the arrested persons. Following the unauthorised online leak of the movie, a case was registered at the state cyber crime investigation centre under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology (IT) Act, the Copyright Act, and the Cinematograph Act.The cybercrime wing formed special teams to identify to block infringing links, analyse digital evidence, and trace those involved in uploading and distributing the pirated content.During the investigation, police identified six people who had uploaded and shared the film through cloud storage platforms and link-sharing services. The accused were arrested, and the digital devices used in the offence were seized.Police said the accused were produced before a magistrate court in the city and remanded in judicial custody. Officials have initiated action to block more than 300 links hosting pirated content. Teams are monitoring social media platforms, websites, and file-sharing services to prevent further circulation. Police said further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the distribution network.They warned that downloading or sharing pirated content is a cognisable offence and that strict action would be taken against violators.The public has been advised to report instances of piracy through the national cybercrime portal or helpline.
