Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday trained their fire on BJP’s promise of Rs 3,000 monthly assistance to Bengal’s women, citing what they called a consistent pattern of pre-poll promises and post-poll betrayals.“Before the Delhi polls, they promised financial assistance to women. One and a half years later, not a single penny has been given. Before the Bihar polls, money was given to women — post-polls, they were subjected to bulldozer action and asked to return it. The women of Bihar have been cheated. Nobody will believe they will give Rs 3,000 here,” Banerjee said. “They think fooling people is easy. People will not give you a single vote this time because you want to take away their land, food, culture and identity,” she said.Abhishek echoed the attack, releasing a video on his X handle purportedly showing BJP workers in Bihar going door to door demanding the return of money given to women ahead of the polls. He challenged Amit Shah to implement a comparable scheme in any BJP-governed state — Assam, Tripura, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Chhattisgarh. “If a family has four women, all four should receive it,” he said.Taking aim at BJP’s broader record, Abhishek said: “They promised Rs 15 lakh — did you get it? Two crore jobs annually — did that happen? Rs 2,500 to Delhi’s women — it has been 14 months and no woman has received a rupee. Trinamool’s guarantee is a lifetime warranty; BJP’s has zero warranty.” Abhishek further alleged that a BJP victory would mean leaders from Delhi and Gujarat dictating what Bengal eats and wears.
