Chennai: As campaigns intensify, Tamil film actors and TV serial artistes have joined the campaign bandwagon of multiple parties across the state. ‘Karagattakaran’-fame Ramarajan, a former AIADMK MP from Tiruchendur who campaigned for the party till the 2024 elections, has shifted to TVK. He canvassed in Alangulam for TVK’s V Vipin Chakravarthi. He said Vipin’s family were his friends of nearly three decades and supported him by screening his 2024 film ‘Samaniyan’ in their theatre when others did not. “Though I will continue to be an AIADMK cadre, I will campaign for TVK since Vijay is also my brother and I wish him all success and reach great heights,” he said. Actor Ponnambalam, who earlier campaigned for AIADMK and BJP, also backed TVK. Campaigning for Cumbum candidate P L A Jaganath Mishra, he said Vijay had wide public support. Taking a swipe at DMDK, he said, “The person who gave me my identity was ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth. But now Premallatha Vijayakanth has joined the ‘evil force’, DMK. She may think it will bring victory, but it will not.” In the DMK camp, actor Nalini campaigned on Tuesday for V G Rajendran in Tiruvallur. She told reporters several were predicting a margin of 50,000 votes. “But I believe he will win by a margin of one lakh votes for the work he has done for the people,” she said. In the AIADMK camp, actor Gautami campaigned over the past week in and around Chennai, supporting NDA candidates in Virugambakkam, Chengalpet and Tiruttani, citing local issues. Actor Vaiyapuri campaigned in Uthangarai and Madurai, calling for AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s return.
