Nagpur: A 76-year-old retired medical officer from Laxmi Nagar was duped of Rs2 crore in a ‘digital arrest’ scam by fraudsters who claimed his bank account was linked to terrorist activities.According to the FIR registered at cyber police station on Saturday, the complainant received threatening messages on his mobile number between March 23 and April 3. Fraudsters, posing as officials from Supreme Court, ED, Mumbai Police and RBI, sent fake documents with official stamps via WhatsApp and asked the senior citizen to transfer the money online from his bank accounts.Police have invoked relevant sections of BNS, including 318(4), 319(2), 336(2), 340(1), 204, 61(2), along with Section 66 of the Information Technology Act. No arrest has been made yet. Cyber experts warn citizens, especially senior citizens, against sharing personal details or transferring money on calls claiming ‘digital arrest’ or fake warrants.
